Safety

Safety is a key value on all Tiwest sites.

The company pursues a goal of zero workplace injuries. This means that assessment of risks and the implementation of safe work practices are incorporated into all production processes.

Wherever possible, safety hazards have been engineered out of all Tiwest's plants. Where an engineering solution is not possible or appropriate, careful job analysis has provided safe working procedures that are embedded into work practices.

Tiwest's safe working procedures demand that all employees and contractors are properly trained in safety. Employees at all sites regularly take part in new or refresher programs. Contractors and Tiwest employees receive a safety induction prior to starting work for the first time at each site.

At each Tiwest operation, safety committees meet on a regular basis to review safety performance, investigate and analyse safety incidents and devise safe working practices. In addition, a Safety Leadership Forum comprising General Managers, Safety and Health Managers and Joint Venture Representatives meet monthly to discuss strategic safety and health related matters of relevance across the whole of Tiwest.

Tiwest's safety performance compares favourably with other companies in both the mining and the plastics and chemicals industries.
