Bunbury

In 2004 Tiwest moved a large proportion of its bulk export and import activities to the Bunbury Port as part of a long-term strategy to improve the logistics of its operations.

Each year Tiwest moves approximately 175,000 tonnes of mineral sands products, including rutile, zircon, leucoxene and synthetic rutile, from its Chandala Processing Plant to the Bunbury Port by road, before it is exported in bulk to destinations worldwide.

On the return journey from Bunbury the trucks pass through Collie where they backhaul coal for Tiwest's operations. By backhauling coal, total transport time is reduced and efficiency of the logistics operation is improved.
