Adding Value

Operating at six sites in Western Australia, Tiwest is one of the world's leading titanium minerals producers. In a fully integrated business, Tiwest mines heavy mineral sands, separates titanium minerals and zircon, produces synthetic rutile and manufactures titanium dioxide pigment.

As the largest business in the world that mines, separates, upgrades and manufactures titanium minerals products in one region, the company clearly demonstrates the benefits of value adding to a basic mineral resource.

By processing all its mineral sands in one region, Tiwest generates additional export income for its owners and for Western Australia. For example, titanium dioxide pigment can sell for more than 15 times the value of the original ilmenite.

On this basis, it is good business for Tiwest and for Australia to add value to the huge mineral resources owned by the company.
