One of the newer features of Tiwest's Kwinana Pigment Plant is the addition of a cogeneration plant as a source of energy. A gas turbine at the plant generates electricity and the exhaust gases raise steam for use at the Pigment Plant. In the past, these hot exhaust gases would have been vented to the atmosphere.
The cogeneration plant is capable of providing for all of Tiwest's power requirements at Kwinana, and the majority of steam requirements, as well as contributing surplus electricity to the South West interconnecting grid for use in households and other businesses. The unit improves the efficiency of the operation which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
